Foundational Arithmetic: Understanding and Operating with Decimals

Many real-world calculations, from finance to measurement, involve working with numbers that are not whole. Developing precision in handling these values is crucial for daily life and further mathematical study. This course provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to mastering the four fundamental arithmetic operations involving decimal numbers. By the end, you will gain confidence in accurately manipulating decimals for any basic calculation. What you'll learn: * Understand the structure of decimal numbers and the importance of place value. * Master the precise techniques required for adding and subtracting decimals. * Practice the algorithms for multiplication and division of decimal numbers. * Apply rounding and estimation strategies to verify calculation results quickly. This text-based course begins by defining decimal numbers and exploring their relationship to fractions. We then systematically introduce and practice the rules for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, ensuring conceptual clarity before moving to practical application. This course is designed for absolute beginners or anyone seeking a thorough refresher in core arithmetic concepts. No prior mathematical knowledge beyond basic whole-number counting is required.
