11 208 Introduction To Computers In Public Management Ii January Iap 2002

Public sector decisions require solid data, yet many professionals struggle to turn raw information into actionable policy insights. This text-based course bridges the gap by introducing you to the essential computational tools used in urban planning and public management today. You will transition from manual data tracking to executing spatial analyses and database queries, allowing you to run "what-if" scenarios that directly inform public policy and community planning. What you'll learn: - Understand the core terminology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data structures. - Query and filter public datasets using foundational database query languages. - Analyze spatial relationships to solve real-world urban planning and resource allocation challenges. - Perform "what-if" policy analyses using structured data models and scenario-building techniques. - Apply modern open-data standards to find and clean public sector datasets. This course begins with key terminology and foundational concepts of public sector computing, database architecture, and spatial data. From there, you will progress through structured written walkthroughs focusing on querying databases and interpreting spatial patterns to solve community-level problems. Designed entirely for beginners, this course requires no prior programming or database experience. Start reading today to build the data-driven skills needed to shape better communities.
