Half our arguments came from the school laptop, because I could never tell if he was working or not. Separating 'screen for school' from 'screen for fun' in our plan, with different rules for each, cleared that up almost overnight.

Really useful ideas overall, though a couple of the modules repeat the same point a few times.
Works well at home, less so once the grandparents hand over a tablet the moment we leave.
Chargers out of the bedrooms. Everyone sleeps better.
My kids now understand why we have boundaries, which made bedtime so much easier.
I came in thinking this would just be another 'limit screens to two hours' lecture. Instead it digs into the behavioral patterns and how to talk to your child about them. My eight year old actually helped make our own rules.
Strong on the talking, light on the actual settings.
The family media plan section gave us a clear structure that actually stuck after a week of trying.
I appreciated that it focuses on the reasons behind the screen habits instead of just telling you to set a timer.
The thing that got me was the point about using screen time as currency. We'd been doing it for years — finish your dinner and you get the tablet, misbehave and you lose it — and I'd never once thought about what that teaches. It makes the screen the most valuable thing in the house. We stopped, and within about ten days the tablet had lost most of its power as a bargaining chip, which also meant it lost most of its pull. My daughter still watches, she just doesn't obsess over it between sessions the way she did. That one idea alone rearranged how we run the evenings.
The transition warnings are stupidly simple and they work. Telling him he has one more round left instead of yanking the console off mid-game turned the worst part of our day into a non-event.
Overall a really thoughtful course that I'd say is worth the time for any parent feeling overwhelmed by devices. The sections on the psychology of digital habits and how to model healthy behavior yourself were the highlights for me. My only small gripe is that some of the app-specific advice feels like it could date quickly, and I'd have loved printable templates for the media plan instead of having to make my own. Still, the core ideas are solid and I keep coming back to my notes.
Solid course, wish it covered teens more.
Genuinely good on the why, and the family agreement idea is worth doing. Just be aware it assumes an adult is around to hold the line most of the time, which on my shift pattern isn't reality — my eldest is home alone with a laptop three afternoons a week and the course has nothing for that.
What surprised me most was how much of this is about the parents, not just the kids. It gently points out how our own phone habits shape what children learn, and gives realistic ways to change without going cold turkey. The structure builds nicely from understanding the problem to actually setting boundaries that stick. My daughter has started reading again in the evenings instead of scrolling, and I honestly didn't expect results that fast.
The content on building a personalized media plan is genuinely the strongest part and I've already put it into practice. I did wish there were a few more concrete examples for younger toddlers though, since a lot leans toward school-age kids.
Sensible stuff, though it doesn't help much when the rules are completely different at their dad's place.
Changed how our whole family uses phones.
My son now says he feels 'weird and grumpy' after too long online and gets up on his own, which I never expected to hear from a nine year old.
Good balance between theory and small everyday steps, even if the intro takes a little while to get going.
As someone who felt guilty about screens all the time, this reframed the whole thing for me. It's less about strict rules and more about teaching kids to make good choices themselves. The conflict at home has dropped noticeably.
Practical and calm advice, loved it.
There's a lot here I'd defend. The explanation of how the apps are built to keep kids hooked gave me something concrete to say when my ten year old argues that he 'just can't stop', and the whole course treats children as people you negotiate with rather than manage. Where it fell short for me is resistance. Mine dug his heels in hard for the first fortnight and the course sort of assumes your child will come along once they understand the reasoning. Mine understood the reasoning perfectly and still slammed a door. We got there eventually, but I could have used a section on what to do when the calm conversation doesn't land.
We survived a four-hour drive without the tablet. First time ever.
Finally stopped the tablet battles.
